The Nordic Thingies are a family of rapid prototyping platforms for IoT applications and PoC. They offer developers, engineers and inventors the ability to put concepts and ideas for wireless products into practice in a very fast time frame.

Proof of Concept (PoC) is an important step in the product development lifecycle. PoCs are where ideas start to look like products and where products start to take form.

The Nordic Thingy philosophy is to put best-in-class Nordic flagship SoCs at the heart of the Thingy and compliment these SoCs with multiple sensors, actuators and interfaces, giving a wealth of exciting possibilities out-of-the box.

They support Over the Air Device Firmware Updates (DFU) meaning both application and communication stack firmware can be upgraded via a mobile device, gateway or the cellular network.

The Thingies are rugged and built to last, they come in a tough polypropylene case and have a removable splash-proof rubber hood. They run from LiPo batteries and dependent on your application can run for months and even years on a single charge. A Thingy even has mounting holes on the case making it ideal for long term in-situ tests indoors and outdoors.

The Nordic Thingy:52 is a prototyping platform for short range projects based around the nRF52832 SoC.
It enables PoCs that use Bluetooth low energy, Bluetooth mesh and NFC. Thingy:52 has a broad selection of sensors for building your PoC.

It comes with a demo application and an accompanying phone app and gateway app and can be connected to nordic’s cloud system for test and evaluation, nRF Connect for Cloud.

Prototyping platform for cellular IoT

The Nordic Thingy:91 is a prototyping platform for cellular IoT projects based around the nRF9160 SiP.
It also features an nRF52840 SoC for short range technologies when building hybrid PoCs.

Cellular support is LTE-M, NB-IoT with assisted GPS.
Short range support exists for Bluetooth low energy, Bluetooth mesh, 802.15.4-based protocols and NFC.

Thingy:91 has a broad selection of sensors for building your PoC. Thingy:91 connects to Nordic’s cloud system for test and evaluation, nRF Connect for Cloud.
