nRF7120 module preliminary datasheet
The nRF71 Series is Nordic's family of Wi-Fi MCUs. The nRF7120 module is Nordic Semiconductor's own module for the series. It combines the dual-band Wi-Fi® 6 nRF7120 or the tri-band Wi-Fi 6E nRF7120E with everything needed for a complete radio design in a 10 × 14 mm package: RF matching and filtering, a T/R switch and diplexer, a 64 MHz crystal, RF shielding and a PCB antenna.
The module is designed for modular certification and is planned to be certified for FCC, CE and Japan. Customers can carry the certification over to their end product, which removes RF design work and shortens the path to market.
Inside, the Wi-Fi MCU runs Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth® LE on independent radios with an on-chip coexistence controller, so both can operate at the same time. The Wi-Fi radio has an integrated PA and LNA, and an Arm® Cortex®-M33 application processor runs the customer application, so no separate host MCU is needed.
The module is available in two pin-compatible variants. The nRF7120-LAAA is based on the dual-band Wi-Fi 6 nRF7120. The nRF7120E-LAAA is based on the tri-band Wi-Fi 6E nRF7120E, which also adds the Axon NPU for machine learning at the edge. Both are fully supported in nRF Connect SDK, using the same Wi-Fi stack as the other nRF71 Series Wi-Fi MCUs and the nRF70 Series.
The nRF7120 module is ideal for smart home devices and smart locks, wearables, asset and pet trackers, industrial sensors and other battery-powered Wi-Fi products where size, time to market and certification matter.
