nRFready Smart Remote 3 for nRF52 SeriesReference Design (nRF6939)

Advanced highly featured Smart Remote reference design with unparalleled voice input and power performance.

The nRFready Smart Remote 3 for nRF52 Series is a complete Bluetooth® Low Energy enabled remote control reference design for today’s media centers including Smart TVs, set-top boxes (STB) and a wide range of media provision products available in the market today. This reference design offers best-in-class voice input features and performance with outstanding ultra-low power consumption.

Smart Remote 3 for nRF52 Series builds upon the features already available for the Smart Remote 3 for nRF51 Series such as free-space gesture support, multi-touch trackpad and button matrix but with far superior voice input capabilities. This reference design leverages the outstanding performance capabilities of the nRF52 Series and as such it has considerable scope for further features and modifications to complete an extremely advanced remote control product.

Voice input is supported by offering two digital mic inputs which support noise and echo cancellation as a part of this reference design. This allows for much ‘cleaner’ sampling of audio input which in turn allows for superior compression techniques resulting in fewer on-air data packets. A range of audio compression options
are offered including OPUS, BroadVoice™ and ADPCM.

The reference design is an add-on that works together with the nRF52 Development Kit. An nRF52 DK is required to use this reference design but it is not included and must be purchased separately. The add-on contains all the external sensor devices that can interface with the nRF52 DK.
Additionally, there is a complete product example remote control included in the kit which can be used directly for evaluation, testing, and demonstration.

All necessary firmware and Host software is provided to implement a full design at both ends of the application. The firmware runs on the nRF52 Series SoCs. Host software supports Linux.

We understand that remote control manufacturers may wish to use either all or a subset of the hardware and software features. This is supported in our design by modularizing hardware, firmware, and Host-side software.
