MOKO SMART’s L03 uses Nordic nRF54L15 SoC to supervise sensors and provide Bluetooth LE connectivity for reliable positioning

Leading IoT device manufacturer, MOKO SMART, has launched a beacon solution powered by Nordic Semiconductor’s next generation nRF54L15 SoC, enabling highly reliable positioning across wide indoor and outdoor areas.

Bluetooth LE enables indoor navigation and asset tracking

The ‘L03’ Bluetooth® 6.0 beacon employs the nRF54L15 SoC’s fourth generation ultra-low power multiprotocol 2.4 GHz radio to provide the low power Bluetooth LE wireless connectivity for both indoor navigation and asset tracking. For example, the 125 g, 74 by 74 by 23 mm, IP67-rated waterproof device enables room-level positioning applications in large venues such as airports, malls, parking lots, and educational campuses. The Nordic SoC-enabled wireless connectivity also allows the beacons to be configured through the associated ‘BeaconX Pro’ app using an iOS/Android device.

Our primary reasons for selecting Nordic’s nRF54L15 for the L03 Bluetooth 6.0 beacon were the SoC’s low power consumption and good RF consistency, as well as its support for the latest Bluetooth 6.0 features including future Bluetooth Channel Sounding support

The nRF54L15 also offers upcoming support for Bluetooth Channel Sounding. The SoC’s generous 1.5 MB non-volatile memory (NVM) and 256 KB RAM is capable of running multiple wireless protocols concurrently, including Bluetooth LE and Bluetooth 6.0 including Channel Sounding. The L03 beacon is hardware compatible with Bluetooth Channel Sounding to increase the accuracy and reliability of distance measurements.

“In indoor positioning applications, Bluetooth LE is more suitable when considering factors like positioning accuracy, product lifespan, and deployment costs,” says Jerry Li, Co-Founder, MOKO SMART. “Our primary reasons for selecting Nordic’s nRF54L15 for the L03 Bluetooth 6.0 beacon were the SoC’s low power consumption and good RF consistency, as well as its support for the latest Bluetooth 6.0 features including future Bluetooth Channel Sounding support for precise and secure distance measurements.”

Nordic nRF54L15 supervises integrated sensors

The nRF54L15 SoC’s 128 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M33 processor and RISC-V co-processor supervise the L03’s integrated sensors including a three-axis accelerometer and temperature sensor. The accelerometer enables power-saving mode in RTLS (Real-time Location System) applications by broadcasting at high frequency only when motion is detected, while using heartbeat broadcasts when stationary, helping to conserve energy. It can also be used for vibration amplitude and impact detection. The temperature sensor expands application scenarios for temperature monitoring.

Furthermore, the optional support for an additional power amplifier (PA) ensures the L03 can reach powerful transmission capabilities of up to +20 dBm, allowing broader coverage of larger spaces. This capability is offered primarily to meet the special requirements of some end customers, such as mining applications.

The L03 employs a large 10,400 mAh battery to operate reliably and continuously for over 10 years before battery replacement. This longevity is achieved thanks in part to the ultra low power capabilities of the nRF54L15 SoC.

“MOKO SMART has extensive experience in firmware development based on Nordic solutions, ensuring product stability,” says Li. “Nordic also provides fast technical support and customization options.”
