The methodology for this third edition of Europe’s Climate Leaders was tightened to reflect the increasing scrutiny from consumers and regulators faced by companies over their environmental performance. Performance was calculated based on the reduction of core greenhouse gas emissions intensity over a five-year period, as well as transparency on disclosing emissions that arise elsewhere within a company’s value chain.

The EU and the U.K. have both set a target of 2050 to achieve net zero emissions. Last summer was the hottest ever recorded in Europe and this year southern Europe is already being afflicted by drought.

Reducing environmental impact

“It remains critical that Nordic continues to prioritize ESG [environmental, social, and governance] considerations,” continues Pettersson. “The company continuously strives towards reducing its environmental impact in the execution of its strategic objectives.”
