The nRF5340 is the world's first wireless SoC based on an Arm® Cortex-M33 dual-processor hardware architecture. A high-performance application processor combined with a fully programmable, ultra low power network processor simplifies system design. In addition, the highly integrated SoC has advanced security features, making it ideal for professional lighting, industrial automation, advanced wearables, and other complex IoT applications.

Dual-processor hardware architecture

In addition to the dual-processor hardware architecture, the nRF5340 SoC has a 2.4GHz multiprotocol radio (supporting Bluetooth 5.2, LE Audio, Bluetooth Direction Finding, Long Range, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Zigbee, ANT™, IEEE 802.15.4, NFC and proprietary 2.4GHz RF protocol software) featuring 3dBm output power and -98dBm RX sensitivity for a link budget of 101dBm. The SoC has been designed to meet the requirements of LE Audio, including Isochronous Channels. The Dynamic Multiprotocol feature uniquely supports concurrent wireless connectivity of the protocols. The SoC features 12Mbps Full Speed USB device and extended temperature range of -40 to 105°C. The nRF52840 SoC incorporates the Arm CryptoCell-312 cryptographic accelerator offering best-in-class security for Cortex-M based SoCs and Arm TrustZone for system-wide hardware isolation for trusted software.

The nRF Connect SDK [Software Development Kit] is used for nRF5340 software development, and integrates the Zephyr RTOS, supports applications using Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth mesh and Thread. Customers also get access to examples, Bluetooth LE profiles and driver support for all peripherals. Migration of Nordic's Bluetooth SoftDevice Controller from the company's proven SoftDevices used with the nRF52 Series is also supported.
