Nordic’s single-board Bluetooth 5/Bluetooth Low Energy development kit takes top prize at 2017 CEM Editor’s Choice Awards in highly-competitive ‘development tools’ category

Nordic Semiconductor today announces that its Nordic Thingy:52 Bluetooth® Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) IoT Sensor Kit has been named winner of the “Most Competitive Development Tools in China” category by the judges of the 2017 China Electronic Market (CEM) Editor’s Choice Awards. The CEM Editor’s Choice Awards—held in Shenzhen, China, in conjunction with the sixth China Information Technology Expo (CITE2018)—is a highly-regarded awards program recognizing the excellent performance of technically advanced products that have met the needs of the Chinese electronics market.

Nordic Thingy:52 is a development tool designed for IoT wireless sensor projects. It is based on Nordic’s nRF52832 Bluetooth® Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) System-on-Chip (SoC) and S132 SoftDevice (RF software protocol). The IoT Sensor Kit enables an app developer with no firmware coding expertise or high-level development tools to quickly design and demonstrate Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and associated mobile device and Internet apps.

A panel of CEM editors and industry experts adjudged Nordic Thingy:52 as the winner in the development tools category of the 2017 awards based on key criteria including brand influence, market share, technological innovation, and product service.

The CEM Editor’s Choice Awards are jointly organized by leading electronics industry magazine, China Electronic Market, and China Electronic Exhibition & Information Communication Company. Following a review period of more than three months, members of the judging panel selected a total of 21 products from 18 competing companies as award winners across various categories such as automotive electronic solutions, sensor products, power products, and development tools.

“Nordic Semiconductor specializes in developing ultra low power short-range wireless communication technologies that support Bluetooth LE, ANT+, and 2.4GHz applications,” said the Editor of China Electronic Market in a statement. “Nordic Thingy:52 is an easy-to-use development tool targeted at IoT wireless sensor projects, allowing developers to create IoT prototypes and samples quickly and easily, without building hardware and writing firmware.

“Based on Nordic Semiconductor's nRF52832 Bluetooth 5 SoC, the Nordic Thingy:52 connects to Bluetooth-enabled devices such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and the Rasperry Pi, and transmits data among sensors, actuators, applications and the Cloud.”
