Nordic Semiconductor opens new sales and technical support offices in mainland China

New offices in Shanghai and Shenzhen to provide fast, on-site support to Nordic’s growing Chinese customer base and China’s high-tech wireless design and production sectors

 

Nordic Semiconductor today announces that it has opened new sales, marketing, and customer support offices in mainland China, allowing the company to provide fast sales and technical support to China’s burgeoning high-tech wireless electronics design and manufacturing sectors. The new offices are in addition to Nordic’s established Asian HQ, situated in Hong Kong.

 

The two new offices officially opened on March 1, 2016, and are based in Shanghai in north-east China, and Shenzhen in Guangdong province in the south of China, respectively. Each office is staffed by a Technical Sales representative and Field Application Engineer (FAE) and managed by Nordic’s existing Regional Sales Managers in China.

 

The opening of the new offices is a response to the dramatic growth of companies designing and developing Bluetooth® Smart solutions in China, particularly in the area of wearables, IoT, toys, healthcare, payment systems, and smart remote control with voice command.

 

“China has been growing steadily every year since Nordic started out in Asia in 2001,” says Ståle “Steel” Ytterdal, Nordic’s Director of Sales & Marketing – Asia. “However, when we introduced Bluetooth Smart in 2010 sales exploded. That showed Nordic that there was a lot of innovation going on in China and we needed to position ourselves to closely support these customers.

 

“During the recent Nordic Global Tech Tour we had more than a thousand people in China alone coming to receive a full day of technical training on the nRF52 Series Bluetooth Smart SoC, and every single one of them got the nRF52 development kit. That confirms China is bubbling with possibilities.

 

“Customers will now have a much more local support office. It will be easier and more convenient for them to get highly-trained Nordic staff to visit and offer engineering support in their native language,” adds Ytterdal.

 

The opening of the Shanghai and Shenzhen offices strengthens Nordic’s relationship with its current distribution partners––Avnet, Arrow, Honestar, New Spirit, Rutronik, Xuntong––providing an increased presence in mainland China and the basis for further collaboration on joint meetings with potential and existing customers.

 

“Nordic not only supports big customers in China, but also spends a lot of time reaching out and supporting smaller companies and start-ups as well,” explains Ytterdal. “For example, we encourage customers with questions and challenges to interact with the Nordic Developer Zone [devzone.nordicsemi.com] where we have over 12,000 questions and answers. Every year the number of Chinese visitors to the Developer Zone doubles, and 95 percent of the time they will find the answer to their questions there.”
