The nRF9160 SiP with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GPS recognized in IoT Connectivity Solution category of prestigious awards

Nordic Semiconductor today announces that its nRF9160 System-in-Package (SiP) with integrated LTE-M/NB-IoT modem and GPS has been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘IoT Connectivity Solution’ category of the IoT World Awards 2020.

The IoT World Awards are designed to highlight exemplary products, projects and people across the IoT ecosystem, with the nominees demonstrating the ability to add value, increase security, reduce cost, and add sophistication to a maturing IoT market. Organized by U.K-based multinational business intelligence and events group, Informa, the winners will be determined by an expert judging panel including editors, analysts, researchers, and consultants.

Recognized as the world’s leading Bluetooth® Low Energy semiconductor chip company (based on Bluetooth LE end-product certifications*) Nordic has evolved into a wireless IoT company able to ‘connect anything’ via ultra-low power, short-range wireless technologies such as Bluetooth LE; or low-power, long-range wireless technologies such as the latest IoT-targeted version of cellular wireless technology, LTE-M and NB-IoT.

Nordic's nRF9160 is an ultra-compact, low power, global, multimode LTE-M/NB-IoT SiP with integrated Arm Cortex-M33 host processor, Arm TrustZone security and Assisted GPS. By designing the LTE-M/NB-IoT product using SiP technology the product measures just 10 by 16 by 1mm and represents the smallest form-factor ever seen in the cellular industry. The nRF9160 integrates all the components required for cellular IoT operation; including a multimode cellular modem and transceiver, RF front end, dedicated application processor, Flash and RAM memory, power management, as well as crystal and passive components on a single chip. The nRF9160 is optimized for low power and takes full advantage of the power savings introduced by the LTE-M and NB-IoT standards and enhances them with Nordic’s long-term expertise in ultra-low power wireless design. As a result, the nRF9160 supports average power consumption levels well below 10µA in the lowest duty-cycle wireless IoT applications.

“This product is the result of nearly five years hard work, so we are delighted to see it recognized in the IoT World Awards,” says Geir Langeland, Director of Sales and Marketing, Nordic Semiconductor. “The nRF9160 SiP is all about taking the unique value proposal of cellular IoT and making it easy for anyone to wirelessly connect a product to the Cloud.”

The winners of the IoT World Awards 2020 will be announced at a virtual event to be hosted online on Tuesday, August 11.
