Nordic’s nRF52 Bluetooth LE SoC development kits and software development kits recognized in Design&Elektronik’s ‘Innovator of the Year’ Awards

Nordic Semiconductor today announces it has been named a 2018 “Innovator of the Year” for its nRF52 Bluetooth® Low Energy (Bluetooth LE) Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) development tools by leading German electronics design magazine Design&Elektronik. The award recognizes. Nordic’s nRF52 and nRF52840 Development Kits (DKs), nRF5 Software DKs (SDKs), and the Nordic Thingy:52 DK.

Design&Elektronik is a highly-regarded, independent German electronics design publication with a readership of 67,000. In the second edition of an annual program that celebrates outstanding innovation, the Design&Elektronik 2018 Innovator of the Year Awards were selected based on the votes of 1,100 of the magazine’s readers. Nordic’s nRF52 DK is a versatile single board development kit for Bluetooth LE, ANT, and 2.4GHz proprietary applications supported by the nRF52832 and nRF52810 SoCs. The nRF52840 DK is a versatile single board development kit for Bluetooth 5, Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Zigbee, IEEE 802.15.4, ANT, and 2.4GHz proprietary supported by the nRF52840 SoC. The nRF5 SDK provides a software development environment for the nRF52 Series SoCs and operates with SEGGER Embedded Studio, MDK-ARM Keil, GNU/ GCC, and IAR Integrated Development Environments (IDEs). Nordic also provides specialized SDKs that add to the generic SDK and extend functionality to things like mesh networking and wireless charging. The Nordic Thingy:52 DK is a fully-functional single-board Bluetooth 5-compatible Bluetooth LE development kit, based on Nordic’s nRF52832 SoC, offering ‘out-of-the-box’ wireless configuration from smartphone apps and the Cloud. It enables app developers with no firmware coding expertise or high-level development tools to quickly design and demonstrate Internet of Things (IoT) devices

“Nordic Semiconductor has built a market-leading position in Bluetooth LE by abstracting all unnecessary technical complexity away from the wireless product designer,” says Geir Langeland, Director of Sales & Marketing with Nordic Semiconductor. “The company’s development tools, along with Nordic’s unique software architecture which separates the Bluetooth LE stack from the designer’s application code, are the key to keeping development simple.

“The fact that the purpose and value of the company’s development tools is independently recognized by the readers of Design&Elektronik, who comprise designers and engineers of electronic products, is a good endorsement of Nordic’s strategy.”
