Bangalore-based SM Electronics Technologies offers RF design services and in-house labs to assist companies building wirelessly-connected products for booming market

Nordic Semiconductor today announces it has signed a new distribution agreement with SM Electronic Technologies, an established Bangalore, India-based electronics component distributor. The deal covers the distribution of Nordic’s Bluetooth® Low Energy, ANT+, IEEE 802.15.4, and 2.4GHz proprietary ultra low power (ULP) wireless connectivity solutions across India.

SM Electronic Technologies is a one-stop sourcing and design solution provider for electronic components and products. The company will supply Nordic’s complete range of ULP wireless connectivity hardware, firmware, development tools, and reference designs, including the recently launched nRF52840 System-on-Chip (SoC), an advanced multiprotocol device supporting Bluetooth 5, ANT, IEEE 802.15.4, and 2.4GHz proprietary technologies, and the nRF52810 SoC, a high-performance, entry level Bluetooth 5 multiprotocol device.

We want to offer the premier solutions for each technology so it was a simple decision to partner with Nordic Semiconductor as the company is the leader in Bluetooth Low Energy.
M S Manjunath, SM Electronic Technologies

Established in 1990, SM Electronic Technologies is a leading Indian professional distribution company managed by staff with both business and technical expertise. The company has over 100 employees across seven locations with inventory held locally. In addition to a wide range of active and passive components, displays, and connectors, the company features a large selection of RF chips and modules supporting Bluetooth LE and Bluetooth technology, Wi-Fi, and zigbee. SM Electronics Technologies employs sales engineers with specialist RF expertise, offers RF design services, and boasts in-house labs in Bangalore and Delhi.

“India’s engineers are embracing wireless technology across a wider range of applications so SM Electronics was keen to expand its wireless portfolio with Bluetooth LE solutions,” says M S Manjunath, Managing Director, SM Electronic Technologies. “We want to offer the premier solutions for each technology so it was a simple decision to partner with Nordic Semiconductor as the company is the leader in Bluetooth LE.

“We are witnessing the emergence of wirelessly-connected products across many sectors, but particularly industrial, automotive, and consumer products,” adds Manjunath. “Nordic’s chips are particularly suitable for these applications because their multiprotocol support allows engineers to use the same hardware for products employing different wireless technologies. The chips’ low power consumption is also important.”

“India is an increasingly important market for Nordic Semiconductor so we were very selective in our choice of distribution partner,” says Wendell Boyd, APAC Sales Manager, Nordic Semiconductor. “With 25 years of experience in the local market, a high-level of RF expertise, and widespread support across the country, SM Electronics perfectly matches Nordic’s requirements.”
